7 Day Primates & Wildlife

Safari Overview

A 7-day safari combines chimpanzee tracking in Kibale with Queen Elizabeth's Kazinga boat cruise and gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Search for tree-climbing lions in Ishasha, then visit the Batwa community for cultural insight.

The Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Kibale National Park

Your journey begins with a morning pickup from Entebbe or Kampala. You drive west through rolling hills and tea plantations to Kibale National Park. The journey takes five to six hours with a lunch stop. You check into your lodge near the forest edge. The afternoon is free to relax or take a short walk along the forest boundary. Your guide briefs you on tomorrow’s chimpanzee tracking.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Wetland

An early start takes you to the park headquarters for a briefing before entering Kibale’s rainforest. The trek follows chimpanzee calls through the thick undergrowth. When you find them, you have one hour to observe their behaviour. After lunch, you visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided walk. The swamp reveals colobus monkeys and many birds. Return to your lodge for dinner.

Day 3: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you leave Kibale and drive south to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The journey takes about three hours through the scenic countryside. You stop for lunch en route. Upon arrival, you check into your lodge near the Kazinga Channel. The afternoon is free to relax or take a short walk around the lodge grounds. Dinner is served with views over the channel.

Day 4: Afternoon Boat Cruise on the Kazinga Channel

A relaxed morning allows you to rest or explore the lodge grounds. After lunch, you board a boat for a cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This 32-kilometre channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George and is teeming with wildlife. You see large pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles basking on the banks, and elephants drinking at the water’s edge. The birdlife is exceptional, with African fish eagles and kingfishers in abundance. Return to your lodge for dinner.

Day 5: Game Drive and Transfer to Bwindi

An early morning game drive takes you across the Kasenyi Plains, known for large buffalo herds and lions. You spot elephants, lions, and Uganda kob. After the drive, you check out and continue south to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The journey passes through the Ishasha sector, famous for tree-climbing lions. You arrive at your lodge near Bwindi in the late afternoon. Rest and prepare for tomorrow’s gorilla trek.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Experience

After an early breakfast, you assemble at the park headquarters for a briefing. You are assigned to a gorilla family and trackers. The trek through steep, dense forest can take hours. When you locate the gorillas, you have one unforgettable hour with them. Watching the silverback protect his group is deeply moving. After the trek and lunch, you visit the Batwa community, who share their traditions through storytelling and dance.

Day 7: Departure

After breakfast, you check out and begin the drive back to Entebbe or Kampala. The journey takes about eight to nine hours through the scenic countryside. You stop for lunch along the way. Depending on your flight, you may visit Kampala’s craft market. Your driver transfers you to Entebbe International Airport for your departure.
