5 Day Murchison Falls & Kibale Safari

Safari Overview

This 5 day safari combines rhino tracking at Ziwa with game drives and a Nile boat cruise in Murchison Falls, then chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest. Explore Bigodi Wetland for monkeys and birds.

The Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Murchison Falls via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Your journey begins with a morning pickup from Entebbe or Kampala. You drive north towards Murchison Falls National Park, stopping at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. A guided walking safari brings you within metres of the rhinos, the only place in Uganda to see them in the wild. After lunch, you continue through the countryside to the park, arriving in the late afternoon. The evening air is filled with the grunting of hippos along the Nile.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise in Murchison Falls

An early morning game drive takes you across the savannah plains. Watch for elephants, giraffes, lions, and buffalo. The park is also home to the rare Rothschild’s giraffe. After lunch, you board a boat for a cruise up the Nile towards the base of the falls. Hippos, crocodiles, and waterbirds line the banks. The thunder of the falls grows louder as you approach the narrow gorge where the Nile forces through.

Day 3: Drive to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, you leave Murchison Falls and drive south towards Kibale Forest. The journey takes most of the day, passing through Hoima and the verdant countryside. You stop for lunch en route. As you approach Fort Portal, tea plantations and the Rwenzori Mountains dominate the landscape. You check into your lodge near the forest edge. The afternoon is free to relax. Your guide briefs you on tomorrow’s chimpanzee tracking.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Walk

An early start takes you to the park headquarters for a briefing before entering Kibale’s rainforest. The trek follows chimpanzee calls through the thick undergrowth. When you find them, you have one hour to observe their fascinating behaviour. After lunch, you visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided walk. The swamp reveals colobus monkeys, bush pigs, and many bird species. Return to your lodge for dinner.

Day 5: Departure

After breakfast, you check out and begin the drive back to Entebbe or Kampala. The journey takes about six hours through the scenic countryside. You stop for lunch along the way. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for a quick visit to Kampala’s craft market. Your driver transfers you to Entebbe International Airport for your departure. This marks the end of your Ugandan adventure.
